If you’ve been hurt in a relationship you may feel a bit nervous about dating again.  It is normal to feel apprehensive and even want to make sure that you guard your heart.  However, it is important that you get out and date again, but you may find that the best approach is a slow one.

Moving fast is part of modern day society.  In fact, people commonly make reference to this as being the microwave generation.  Yet, when it comes to picking up the pieces of a broken heart, it is always wise to take things slow.  It is better to ensure that you are emotionally ready for a new relationship then to rush things and find that you’ve begun a relationship that you weren’t ready for.  So when do you know when to start dating and when to take things slowly?  The best way to know when you are ready to date again is when you are no longer in emotional pain over your former relationship.

When a relationship ends, a person is not only left with a broken heart, but they are also left with a number of emotions running rampant.  If you try to date while you are running an emotional marathon, you’ll definitely have a difficult time maintaining a normal relationship.  It is better to let yourself have significant time to healing.

Once you feel that things are settling down and you can think about your ex without feeling overwhelming negative feelings, you have a good indication that you are ready to move on.

Second, you should take any time that you need to make sure that you are caring for yourself before dating again.  If you’ve been very sad, then you should make certain that you are eating right, sleeping right, and exercising.  By taking care of your own health, you will boost your self-esteem and find that once you feel good about yourself, you’ll find pleasure in dating.  You’ll also discover that taking care of yourself has a very therapeutic effect.  By feeling better about yourself you’ll get over your ex faster and enjoy going out and dating again.

Once you find someone and start dating, don’t feel that you suddenly need to leap into a fully committed relationship either.  You should feel comfortable telling the person that you are dating that you prefer to take things slowly.  It’s a good idea to have plenty of open communication and let the person you are dating know how you feel.

Sometimes, people misunderstand the reason why someone would like to move slowly in a relationship.  In fact, if you don’t tell your partner that you prefer to take things slowly, because you are just getting over a bad relationship or a break up, you run the risk of your partner thinking that you are not interested in the relationship.

By discussing these issues, as you feel comfortable, you can ensure that you will be back in the dating game and having a great time.  Best of all, you’ll be playing at a speed that you feel comfortable with.

Is Honesty the Best Policy When Dating ?

I’m sure you’ve heard it said, “Honesty is the best policy.”  But you may be
wondering if this statement is applicable to dating.  There are many situations
when one may struggle with the idea of whether or not the truth is the best approach.  This can be the result of a number of different situations.  First, many people are confused about how much information they should share with a new partner regarding former relationships.

This can be a very troubling situation if you are dating a person with a very jealous nature.  Many times, jealous partners will ask many questions regarding former relationships, the way a person interacted with their former partner, or if they still have feelings for their ex.  Answering these questions truthfully may seem to be more trouble than they are worth.  It is always wise to think carefully of how you will answer questions regarding past relationships.  Surprisingly, many people determine after careful consideration that honesty is not always the best policy.

Another situation where honesty may not always be the best course of action is when someone has an affair.  Sometimes, a couple may have problems and consider ending their relationship.  During this time, they may become involved with other people.  However, as emotions are unsettled it isn’t uncommon for people to decide to give their former relationships another try.  It is during this time that the question of whether or not to tell their partner about the other relationship arises.  Some professional counselors feel that it may not be best to reveal information regarding the other relationship. It is very important to weigh the pros and cons of the details that you reveal, especially if a relationship is rebuilding trust.

Some people decide that honesty is the best policy and will reveal personal
information.  It is important to understand that when you make this type of commitment to the truth, you may not always have situations end in your favor.  There are many people who simply can’t go on in a relationship without being honest.  The weight of a guilty conscience is unbearable and they will simply tell the truth.  Before making a decision to reveal specific details, you must realize that your partner may become very hurt or upset.  They may even decide that the trust is completely broken and cannot be restored.  You should understand this and let this reality influence your decision.

There are times when many people agree that it isn’t good to be honest.  This could be if you are still dealing with feelings for an ex.  Everyone is different and people respond to breakups in their own way.  This includes the amount of time that a person spends grieving a past relationship.  If you are dating or involved in a new relationship, but are still dealing with feelings for your ex, it may not be a good idea to tell your partner.  Sometimes it is better to keep those feelings private and work them out in your own way.
