What Men See in Older Women

It’s called “intergenerational dating” and is becoming increasingly popular. With celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher and Tim Robbins dating and marrying older women, it is becoming more commonplace to see men with older women.

Recent studies have shown that this trend is on the rise and that older women prefer to date younger men.  But what may surprise you is the fact that in the majority of these relationships, it is not the older woman who was the pursuer. In fact, it is the younger man who chases after the attention of the older woman.

According to recent studies, the younger men are drawn to the maturity, success, and self-confidence that they see exhibited in older women.  There are several other reasons why men are attracted to older women and why these relationships are becoming more prevalent.  One theory is that due to health and medical breakthroughs, older women are living longer, more vibrant lives, and looking great while doing so.

Other reasons include the fact that since the divorce rate has increased, more  older women are available.  Since many of the divorced women have already been through their childbearing years, they are not looking for a partner to start  over with.  Younger men, who are not interested in starting a family, are compatible with these older women.  Their time is often spent on fun things, partying, and enjoying life.

Though younger men and older women may find themselves compatible, studies show that  the majority of society isn’t ready to accept these relationships.  The research has  shown that other women look down upon older women who date younger men.  Due to these  findings, it is imperative that those who are actively involved in intergenerational  relationships are committed and determined to make their relationship work.

There’s no question that younger men are attracted to the level of experience and confidence that they see in older women.  Research also shows that sex plays an important aspect in intergenerational dating, but not as much as you may think. Men are generally excited by the fact that older women are more experienced and know  what they are doing.  The women state that they like being the one in charge and that  younger men have the energy to keep up with them. But the majority of these relationships state that sex is a small part of what attracted them to each other. Their connections are based on other aspects, such as hobbies, intellectual  conversations, and enjoying each other’s company.

When it comes to finding true love most people agree that age should not be a factor.  Though the prevalence of these Hollywood relationships are helping to shed light on these couples, if two people want their intergenerational relationship to work, they will have to be committed and invest energy into them.  They will need to learn to ignore what those who are critical are saying and fight for what they believe in.  If they are truly in love, then they shouldn’t let the negative opinions of others stop them.
