Breaking up Relationship and Moving Forward

Breaking up is never fun.  It is a time full of negative feelings and emotions and when self esteem is at its lowest. In fact, sometimes breaking up can be so devastating  that it can lead to depression.  However, it is important to realize that you must  move forward with your life.  Just because one relationship doesn’t work out doesn’t  mean that your dream of love doesn’t exist.  You must change your attitude, cheer up,  and move forward.

You may have heard the saying, “Separation makes the heart grow fonder“, but when it  comes to a breakup, separation may be the equivalent of torture.  The number one rule is to put your ex out of your mind, avoid places where he or she may be, and don’t  consume yourself with thoughts of what they are doing.  When it comes to moving forward  the saying should be, “Separation makes the heart grow stronger.”

You should do everything within your power to stay away from your ex. This way you can truly move forward with your life.

Every relationship is different and there is no set of rules that applies to each. One person may never see their ex again, while another person may share children with  their ex.  Another person may wish that they could never see their ex but shares a  workplace with him or her.  The key is to find the tools that you can use to help you  move forward in your own individual situation.  However, once you find those tools,  stick with them.  You must become strong and independent to move forward.

You should also realize that the time spent healing after a break up is a process similar  to grieving.  While you may feel heartbroken and depressed you will feel better as time  passes.  If you need to avoid certain situations or places to move forward with your  life, do so.  Yet, that doesn’t mean that you will never feel comfortable at those  places again.

It is in times like these that you need the support and encouragement from your friends  and family members.  Some days will be better than others and if you feel as though  you are really down, call on your support.  Go out to eat with a friend or visit a  family member.  The best thing that you can do during the early days of your breakup  is to get out and spend time with friends and family.  You may be tempted to stay  inside and cry all day, but this won’t help anyone.  Make plans, get dressed, do your  hair, and go out.  It’s a proven fact that when people look good they feel good, so if  that means buying a new outfit or spending time at the salon then go for it.

A very useful strategy is to find an activity that takes your mind off of your ex and  keep it up.  If it’s reading, then spend time reading a new book.  If working keeps  your mind off of your ex, then you may want to work some extra hours. It doesn’t matter what the activity is, if it keeps your mind off of your ex  then do it.  It won’t be long before you find that you think about your ex less and  have finally moved forward.
